Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression An eight week program to help people who suffer from repeated bouts of depression and chronic unhappiness Research has shown that MBCT is effective in reducing symptoms that accompany depression, particularly the negative thinking that can lead to a downward spiral. The practice of mindfulness meditation allows you to pay close attention to the present moment and brings thoughts, feelings, and body sensations into awareness with an attitude of non-judgment. This experience creates the possibility of working more wisely with sadness, fear, and worry, all emotions that are central to preventing depression. In addition to learning the technique of mindfulness meditation, some of the following themes will be discussed: 8 sessions starting Sunday, May 16 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm The program will be led by Shayna Kulman-Lipsey M.S.W., R.S.W. who has many years of experience in the mental health field and whose area of specialization is depression.
