(ASIST)
For over 25 years, LivingWorks in Calgary, Canada has been helping communities worldwide become suicide-safe. Training in ASIST, as well as other LivingWorks programs is now available in Israel .
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Doctors, psychologists, social workers, counsellors, coaches, nurses, allied health professionals, teachers, rabbis, emergency service workers including crisis line personnel, volunteers
WHY SHOULD YOU ATTEND?
If you cannot answer yes to these four questions.
Are you able to identify the verbal and non-verbal invitations of someone at risk of suicide?
FACT: Most people who are thinking about suicide tell someone in whatever way they are able.
Can you comfortably ask someone if they are thinking about suicide?
FACT: People at risk of suicide are relieved when someone asks them directly about suicide.
Do you assess risk by differentiating thoughts of suicide as less concerning than the desire to act on those thoughts?
FACT: People who have thoughts of suicide are at risk of suicide because circumstances may change and lead them to act on those thoughts. A comprehensive risk review needs to be implemented.
Do you know how to develop an individualized safeplan?
FACT: Individualized safeplans need to be developed to address specific risk alerts.
